Norwell Football Sweeps Crestview

The Norwell Knights continued their strong season Tuesday night, earning victories over the Crestview Cougars in both 7th and 8th grade football action. In the 7th grade game, Norwell (3-1, 1-1 NE8MS) rolled to a 31-8 victory. Slate Aschliman opened the scoring with a touchdown run with 5:54 remaining in the first quarter. Reece Hoopingarner added a touchdown run shortly after, and Miles Hitzfield capped off a dominant opening quarter with another touchdown run. Crestview scored its lone touchdown of the night in the second quarter, but Norwell answered when Hoopingarner found the end zone again with 2:16 remaining in the half. After a scoreless third quarter, Ryder Meriwether connected with Reed Ballard for a touchdown to open the fourth quarter and seal the victory. The 8th grade Knights (3-1, 1-1 NE8MS) posted a 24-0 shutout over Crestview. After a scoreless first quarter, Nico Edwards got Norwell on the scoreboard with a touchdown run with 3:33 left in the first half. Max Norris then found Madden Moser for a touchdown pass, giving the Knights a 16-0 advantage at halftime. Neither team scored in the third quarter, but Norwell put the game away in the fourth when Norris connected with Ripken Bailey for a touchdown pass with 5:49 remaining. Norwell will return to action on Tuesday, September 22, when the Knights travel to Indian Springs. The 7th grade game is scheduled for a 5:00 p.m. kickoff.
